The Red Raincoat Trust has been established to help form a support network throughout the Country for the victims of Homicide. This will play a separate and complimentary role to the Victim Support organisation. There is a very big gap for specific help for murder victim’s families.
The main focus of the Trust is to offer victims of homicide the aid and rehabilitation services required to restore as much normality as possible to their lives by helping with any practical advice and assistance deemed appropriate.
The new Trust is in its initial set up stages and requires financial assistance to enable them to offer the necessary services to these victims. These victims are going through the worst grief they are probably ever going to experience and are constantly being re-victimised by the inevitable bureaucracy that follows a murder which compounds their trauma.
Few could ever appreciate the true impact of murder on a family, yet anyone of us could find ourselves in this position. One day people are leading a normal life and the next day they are thrust into a foreign world through no choice of their own, having to deal with police, courts, media, parole, as well as their unrelenting grief of having lost a loved one to murder.
As there is a demand and clear need for such an organisation the Trust is seeking a principal sponsor and would appreciate sponsorship, donations and contributions which will enable the Trust to provide the support so severely lacking for these families in our community.
Red Raincoat NZ is The Voice for these Victims.
